Football, Football, Football. While SoSickWitItYo and I are desperately waiting for the season to begin (yeah we know it's still a while away) so that we can go gung-ho in Fantasy Football again this year (Hopefully we'll have a TGLR League...and by hopefully I mean we will!).

My homepage is currently set to msn.com, and every day when I get on I like to browse the headlines. As soon as I saw a headline with Jews and Football, I was hooked and had to check out the article that was simply one click away.

The article had to do with a terrible tragedy regarding the fact that the first two home games for the Jets were scheduled on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur!

The New York Jets' first two home games are against two of the AFC's elite teams -- the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. A large segment of the team's fans might not be able to attend the heavyweight matchups, however.

The Jets' home opener against the Patriots is scheduled during Rosh Hashanah. The next week, the Jets host the Titans hours before Yom Kippur starts. The conflict with the two holiest holidays on the Jewish calendar may keep the team's Jewish fans who observe the holidays from attending.

"The Jets are hearing from their fans," Katz, the NFL's senior VP of broadcasting, told the newspaper. "There was miscommunication between the Jets and the NFL office, for which I take full responsibility. All we can continue to do is look and see if there is a solution to this."

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The NFL has moved up the start time of the New York Jets' game against the Tennessee Titans on September 27 after the team complained to the league about having to play home games on consecutive Jewish holidays.

The league made the change Friday, rescheduling the 4:15 start to 1 p.m. a day after Jets owner Woody Johnson sent a letter to commissioner Roger Goodell suggesting the switch to allow fans to arrive home before sundown on Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement.

The Jets' home opener against New England is 1 p.m. on Sept. 20, which falls during Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

"By changing the time of the Tennessee game from 4:15 p.m. to 1 p.m., the NFL has provided the best compromise to resolve our scheduling conflict," Johnson said in a statement issued by the team. The Jets owner also thanked Goodell and Howard Katz, the league's senior vice president of broadcasting and media operations, for their prompt response.

It seems as if the Jews have won this battle, and New York is keeping it real to it's roots.

Check Out The Track Listing Of The CD

I don't know/think many of you out there have ever heard of this guy, but it is about time you get acquainted with his music (and soon enough, you'll get to know him through an upcoming interview that we are doing with him!!!).  Now I don't have his first mixtape (but I am working on getting it fairly soon), but his most recent release entitled, A Matter of Time, should be owned by everyone (seeing as it was a free download on the iTunes Music Store... So you really don't have much of an excuse if you don't have it).  Now I had heard of Mr. Posner a long time ago, when I was just beginning my high school career.  A friend of mine sent over a track entitled, "Chariot vs. 99 Problems", which featured a very solid mashup by Mike Posner.  While I have been following Mike Posner for a very long time, I got to see him live for the first time last night, which was pretty freaking awesome.  But anyway, back to the review at hand...

Now it is kind of weird to have this review coming before I do a whole post about one of the students in our "Incoming Class of '09" segment of the blog, but I figured that we might as well just do this anyway, and get you all familiar with this guy, because there will surely be a ton of posts about him in the near future.  The mixtape itself is one of the best I have heard this year, and is for sure up for the Top 10 Mixtapes of 2009 post, when it comes time to do that.  Mike Posner creates a very interesting and unique sound that mixes well with the beats and music he produces.  I mean he has some crazy crazy songs that he has put together on this most recent mixtape, I mean even my brother enjoys listening to the CD, and he hates that sort of style of music!

The mixtape was nothing really short of spectacular.  I mean it was just fantastic, I got it when it was a free download on iTunes, and I have been bumping it on the car ride to school every morning.  I mean the track listing features some sick narsty musicians, and you can just tell that he is going to be making it big one day in the very near future! I mean I think that the whole Big Sean/Mike Posner thing is truly great and I will be looking forward to more collabs between the two of them in future musical works.  The album is pretty unreal, and I am sure that when he puts out his first solo LP, it will be just straight fire.  Anyway, if I was somebody looking for more new music, then I would definitely hit up the free mixtape on iTunes, and let us know what you think about him.  I think the guy is going to make it big one day, and I am sure we will be hearing more about him in the coming weeks!

Alright, I know this is a music blog, but I just have to share a few things with people out there and educate those who really are not educated on the subject that I am about to address.  In recent events in my hometown of Michigan, I learned that the Bay City area (which is mainly run on power from Consumer Energy) is planning on putting up a new coal plant.  Now the environment, coal, and life in Michigan consist of a whole lot of touchy subjects, most of which I probably won't be able to cover in this post (but I will give it a try!).

 Yesterday, I went with a friend of mine all the way out to Bay City (which is like on the other side of town for me, but it was definitely worth it) to protest these coal plants that are being put up.  This protest/rally that went on outside the public hearing area went on from about 4:00 - 6:00.  Before I went on this wonderful adventure out to Bay City, I was truly uneducated and unaware of the problems that are going on in the environment and around the world.  I am not a "tree hugger" like many of the Union Workers (of the coal plants) called me, rather I was interested about the topic and decided to go.  But the point of this post has nothing to do with the intimidating Union Workers that were paid to show up and intimidate environmentalists, rather, it is to show the flaws of not using alternatives to coal. (*Note* The picture to your left is a picture of some of the supporters of "Clean Energy" who were present at the rally yesterday in Bay City, MI)

Here are some of the things that people don't really get about "Clean Coal" and I think it is dangerous if people around the world continue to buy into the idea of using clean coal.  Think of the clean coal as something like this... "Someone farts on a pillow, but you don't smell the fart.  Just because you don't smell the fart doesn't mean it is not there, all it means is that you cannot smell it!"  Now imagine that fart is actual coal smoke that is filled with mercury and other horrible things for the human body.  Now picture that pillow that was farted on was the ground and the water that surrounds a coal plant.  If you take that scenario and apply it to real life, you are getting this smoke that is being trapped under the ground and is seeping into Michigan's water systems.  This then ruins the clean water sources (seeing as Michigan is next to some of the biggest bodies of clean water in the world [i.e. THE GREAT LAKES]), and those who drink the water or eat animals that live by the water or who roam the infected ground are being infected with these horrible chemicals.  Coal is an awful way to create energy, and seeing as Americans were all into the whole, "Vote Barack Obama - Vote For Change" slogan, you would think that Americans and Union Workers would be more willing to get rid of the old and inefficient coal plants and replace them with updated, high-tech, and powerful Green alternatives.  It was very interesting to see and hear what other people had to say on this topic yesterday at the public hearing.

Yesterday, citizens of Michigan addressed their issues with the coal plants and directed their concerns to the Air Quality Director, Vince Hellwig.  I ended up being one of the many people who spoke out and gave their opinion on current issue that is taking place in Bay City.  I starred at Mr. Hellwig in eyes, and addressed some issues I saw with the building of a new coal plant in Bay City, Michigan.  I addressed that as a young teen (who is only 18 and is about to start college and begin living his adult life), that I and many others in my age group fear for the future in Michigan.  I explained to him that in the next 10-30 years, Michigan will be a ghost town, and that there will be no industry left.  I also explained the issue with building a coal plant that will one day be outdated and will need constant upkeep and maintaining.  The expenses to build another coal plant is just rediculous.  With all that money, Michigan could start building more Green alternatives and start leading the nation in living a Greener lifestyle.  I am never one to stand up in front of crowds and speak, but I said my thing, and I told Mr. Hellwig that if he decides that there should be a coal plant set up, that he is ultimately setting up Michigan for failure.  The auto-industry is dying, and soon enough, the coal industry will be gone as well, why not bring a new industry to Michigan which will be around for a long time, and will allow many who are unemployed to get jobs that are permanent and pertinent to society!

I call upon all the bloggers out there to help me raise awareness to the current global troubles that coal has been causing.  If we all ban together, we can help teach many who are unknowledgeable on the topic at hand, and together, we can all work towards making this country and this world a much greener place.  For those who are making the decisions that will affect people in 50 years from now need to understand something.  In 50 years, I will be here, YOU WON'T.  Don't allow there to be more destruction to the world that we live in.  I am not going to get into religion, but this is our world, and whether or not you believe it was given to us, or something like that, it is our responsibility to keep this world clean.  I am not saying go out and be, "a tree hugger," or go out and start rallies of your own, but rather write letters, educate others, and work for a better future.  People, we all need to stop being so near sited, because if we continue down this road, we won't be living on this planet for much longer...

Well, Welcome to the new craze that has swept the WORLD by storm.  It seems like you can't go anywhere without hearing about this new online social network that goes by the name, "Twitter."  Now, I am not going to be a hypocrite and say anything bad about Twitter, because we here at TGLR use Twitter fairly often!  But the fact of the matter is that there is a current Twitter craze that has truly taken the world by storm.  Facebook, MySpace, and any other social network really can't compete with Twitter right now.  It seems as though more and more people are hearing about it each day and are making accounts the site!  So what does this mean for the future?  Who knows, but let's explore what could happen!!!

You know that Twitter has taken over when Jim Jones gets arrested for an old parking ticket, and is updating all his fans during the whole situation.  At 9:20 P.M., Jim Jones wrote on his twitter the following, ""Just got pulled over by the boys. Of all days I decide to drive by myself ... let's see how this plays out."  He followed up that "TWEET" with another message stating, "Well, it didn't go the way I wanted," he updated. "I'm in the precinct, but I will have my phone, they ain't trippin'. They said just procedure."  His last post about the whole parking fiasco was, "Misssses officer let me go, the funny part was watching them have to count all the money in my pocket," He then stated right after, "I must say they were very cool."  But wait... the Twitter madness does not end right there!!!  He then gave some very valuable advice to all his fans around the world, "Make sure u pay old tickets."  Good advice Jimmy!!!

Jim Jones does not seem to be the only celebrity taking advantage of the new online program.  Many other famous people have started to use it, and it has definitely shown to be beneficial for musicians and other famous people to connect with their fans.  While these famous people are connecting with their fans by letting them know every single thing they are doing, they are also allowing more people to get their creep on and stalk the living crap out of them!  Now I am not saying that everyone should delete their Twitters because people are stalking, but the fact of the matter is that if you are famous (unlike this blog), then you are liable to some crazy person out there stalking you!

Jim Jones is not the only person to use Twitter, there are many others out there who have been using Twitter.  There have ben reports stating that the infamous John Mayer and his "Ex-Girlfriend" Jennifer Anniston broke up due to Twitter.  Well not because Twitter was invented, but because Mr. Mayor was spending too much time on Twitter, and not enough time with Jennifer.  Funny how that works out... If I was dating someone who was fairly attractive like Jennifer Anniston, Twitter would for sure be coming last on my list of important things to do!  And while Twitter truly is such a great device, it is funny to see how people really are just using it because THEY HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO... I mean by golly, do I truly care was Matt Jones is doing every second of the day!? (*NOTE: I do not know if Matt Jones is a real person, sort of just made it up, so any Matt Jones' out there, don't take offense!*)  I mean the fact of the matter is, and I really hate to say this, but if you are just an average joe, no one truly cares about your mundane life!!!  I am sorry I had to say that!  I mean it is useful to celebrities and to News Outlet sources, to Radio Stations, to anything that is used by the common person!  Twitter is not something for people who live boring lives!  I mean, come on, that is why you have Facebook, and MySpace... Use the note app on Facebook to rant and rage over your life and how boring it is!

Another thing that I found hilarious is the countless job firings that have occurred due to the use of Twitter.  When I say "the use of Twitter" I am not talking about people tweeting during work, these firings have come because of certain things people have said on Twitter.  I mean one guy out there got fired from his job because he posted the following up on his Twitter account, "Cisco just offered me a job! Now I have to weigh the utility of a fatty paycheck against the daily commute to San Jose and hating the work."  I mean, what has this world come to!!! You are going to fire someone because they Tweeted that on Twitter!  WOW!!!  I mean this whole Twitter thing has really gotten out of control!  People losing jobs, people breaking up, people talking about getting pulled over and having to pay a ticket from a long time ago!!!   I mean, the fact of the matter is that people should not have their lives ruined by some online site!!! Too bad that unlike on the site, there is no "Disaster recovery procedures" to help rebuild what they once had!

So to end this beautiful Twitter, I will give some advise to all who are reading this and have a Twitter account.

1. Be Careful What You Put Up On Twitter... You Never Know Who Might Be Reading It (i.e. YOUR BOSS)
2. There Are Always Creepers Out There... Be Sure That None Of Them Start Stalking You VIA TWITTER
3. If You Live  A Boring Life, Don't Expect That People Are Going To Be Wanting To Follow You On Twitter!!!
4. If You Are A Stalker... STOP STALKING PEOPLE ON TWITTER... That's What MySpace Is For.
5. Last But Not Least, Be Sure To Update Your Twitter On A Regular Basis, BECAUSE THE WHOLE WORLD TRULY CARES WHEN YOU ARE GOING TO THE BATHROOM, WHEN YOU ARE EATING, WHEN YOU ARE SLEEPING, WHEN YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THE TRASH OUT... ETC.

So I was looking back at some of my old CD's that have been lying around my house, and I stumbled upon one of my first hip-hop/rap CD's that I purchased.  I slipped the OutKast LP, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, into my fairly new MacBook computer, and loaded it into my iTunes player.  As I uploaded the CD, retagged all the songs, found some album artwork for the newly added LP, I began to realize that this is where my roots to hip-hop music come from.  I mean, I have been listening to music my whole life, and I was brought up on oldies, rock, pop, and the blues.  Then a friend of mine suggested I go out and give this band called OutKast a listen, and this is where my love for hip-hop really came from!  This is not to say that there are not other musicians who truly influenced me and caused me to fall deeper in love with the hip-hop/rap movement.  So from now on, I plan on doing a post every now and then called, "A Blast from the Past".  In these posts, I will either cover some of my favorite bands, or do a review of one of my favorite "classic" hip-hop/rap albums.  So for our first "Blast from the Past" we will be covering OutKasts' Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.

When you think of Big Boi and Andre 3000, you think of some of the big hit classics that they put out (both separate and together).  You got your OutKast favorites (you know, everyone has those songs that they hear at parties and what not), such as: "Hey Ya", "Roses", "The Way You Move", and many more.  What many OutKast fans don't realize is that their most prolific album was Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, and that this insane album had all three of those tracks featured on it!  To be completely honest with everyone out there, those three tracks are not the only reasons as to why this album is just crazy good.  There are so many other reasons, and one of the other main ones is that the lyrical flow and musical beats used on all the tracks is just unreal.  It is something hard to find now a day, and if a true music fan gives every song on the album a listen, he/she will be able to hear the smooth lyrics that flow over the melodies produced by the dynamic duo that is Big Boi and Andre 3000.

Speakerboxxx/The Love Below featured thirty nine amazing tracks, and a total of two hours and twenty minutes of playing time.  I let the full album play on my computer today while sitting outside and doing some yard work, and let me tell you, each and every second of the album is something special.  As the album came to an end, I realized how unique and special the sound that OutKast produced was.  I mean, if you were to hear some obscure song by them in some random club, I think you would be able to figure out who was singing it based off their lyrical flow and musical beats alone.  It is just something so incomparable and something so individualist, and because of that, it really separates them from the pack, and makes them a gem in the hip-hop industry and in hip-hop history!  In today's music industry, so many musicians sound similar.  You have comparisons of Asher Roth sounding like Eminem (even though the two don't really sound THAT similar... I mean come on!!! Just because he is a white rapper doesn't make him sound like Eminem, that is just your brain telling you that... but anyway, back on topic), other comparisons are Big Sean to Kanye West.  While these comparisons are made and people do enjoy listening to new musicians that sound a lot like the old ones, I can promise you that eventually that will get boring (not that Asher Roth/Big Sean will ever be boring... I am HUGE fans of theirs [respectively], and can't wait for their albums to drop), but OutKast is something so hard to copy that it makes listening to them so pleasurable!

Anyway, if you have been living under a rock and have never heard of OutKast, I highly suggest you go out and purchase this album, seeing as it is one of their best (next to Stankonia), and it will go down as one of the first albums that has truly changed my ideology about music.  Before I gave this album a listen, I would only listen to what my father brought me up on, you know... Those good ole' oldies, the stuff you listen to with your parents in the car.  I was brought up on musicians like The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, B.B. King, and so many other musicians.  Who knows, maybe when I have kids and we are in the car, I will be playing musicians like OutKast, Kanye West, and other new musicians.
