So today I'm looking through various music news sources and I come across this article from CNN: "An 'Idol' loses his record deal" referencing Taylor Hicks. He was recently dropped by J Records, under Sony-BMG which signs the Idol winners. Umm yeah well who didn't see that coming.

Basically in this article I'm going to do a follow up on the well known American Idol finalists to see what has happened to them. Seriously I'm getting sick of the show and I'm not even sure if I'm going to watch it this season.

Some of the finalists move on to bigger things, and others just slump. Does the American idol system work? or not? Let's find out. Well I mean we already know, for the majority it doesn't work.

Idol #1: Kelly Clarkson
Runner Up: Justin Guarini

Overall I think that America hit it big with this one. Kelly Clarkson puts out great songs that many people love, and she is good most of the time; except for the Superbowl last year, wow she sucked. But anyway I mean here's a time that America chose well, and she did well. Justin Guarini, while I don't really know if he's recording or anything, got to be in a movie with Kelly! Like that was pretty cool and he got some fame.

Verdict:
Season #1 was hot, fresh, and made me want to watch. Kelly is still successful today, and probably ties with Carrie Underwood for Best Idol.

Idol #2: Ruben Studdard
Runner Up: Clay Aiken

What the hell man, what the hell? Ruben Studdard was so much worse than Clay, but w/e "America" voted. There have been conspiracy theories that Fox Network didn't want to have Clay win (b/c he's gay), so they plugged up the lines and forced in votes for Ruben. Whatever you believe, I hope you believe that Clay is better. The only song I remember by Ruben Studdard is "Sorry 2004" where he just says sorry. Sorry for what? Being a sucky American idol? Anyway Clay Aiken did get a record deal as well and came out with an album titled Measure of a Man as his debut album. He has come out with other albums as well, but they have not really been out in the media.

Verdict:
Season #2 produced a terrible idol, and a pretty good runner up, but right now both names are seldom heard. American Idol though was still cool to watch, and the last episode between Ruben and Clay was a heated battle.

Idol #3: Fantasia Barrino
Runner Up: Diana DeGarmo

In my eyes Fantasia was a gifted singer, and the public chose well. Diana DeGarmo was young, and Fantasia was definitely better. But the problem with American Idol is that it's all hype, and unfortunately Fantasia disappeared after her one year or less of fame.

Verdict:
America chose right. That's all I really have to say about this one.

American Idol #4: Carrie Underwood
Runner Up: Bo Bice

In my opinion, definitely the best season yet. Carrie Underwood and Bo Bice both picked up great record deals. While you do not hear that much about Bo Bice these days he is still around and even made the "Blades of Glory" Theme Song if you didn't know. But CARRIE UNDERWOOD. Right now she is HOT both musically and physically if I might add. While I am not a fan of country, Carrie Underwood is just really spectacular. My partner SoSickWitItYo did a review on her Sophomore album Carnival Ride and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Verdict:
There is no way that any other season can beat this one. America was awesome, the final contestants were awesome...and yeah, just awesome.

And now we come to Season 5...
Don't even get me started.

Idol #5 Taylor Hicks
Runner Up: Katharine McPhee

Seriously just a waste of a season. Taylor Hicks sucks, who knows what happened to Katharine McPhee, and Taylor just got dropped.

Verdict:
American Idol now sucks. Yeah.

And finally Season 6.

Idol #6 Jordin Sparks
Runner Up: Blake Lewis

The finalists were actually quite good, except for Sanjaya like wtf. People really just thought American Idol was a joke and followed Howard Stern to keep Sanjaya on the show. The season itself, like the preliminaries were just bad, and like the show was annoying to watch. I don't even watch the show anymore b/c it's just a waste. I'll wait until the end of the show and then watch the finals. But is it really worth it anymore? Anyway Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis are both doing really well right now. They don't have anywhere close to the same hype as Carrie Underwood but both put out successful Frosh albums. Props to these kids because this may be the last American Idol that actually gets watched.

Verdict:
Great winners, wtf Sangina, end of Idol as we know it? Ryan Seacrest is getting annoying. So are Simon, Paula, and Randy.

American Idol should just like leave now b/c really its over. We've seen our fair share of good idols, and we've seen our fair share of bad ones. I think its time we stop watching this show and listen to some good music. In the end it doesn't even matter b/c we won't even be listening to their stuff for the most part. Public ways of discovering just isn't like the good old discovery stuff. American Idol, ta ta for now.

Peace.
