Fine, well maybe this isn't a traditional mixtape, per se, but it is a mixtape of sorts.  If you guys weren't aware, I, ICECrush, and BigRedMusik (guest blogger, may become full time soon), are in fact twin brothers.  As a result, we try to create great CDs to blast in the car on the way to school perfecting order, meaning, and genre fusion.  We think we have come pretty close to creating a Monster on this one, and after many attempts at perfection we have come up with this list.  Please check out the trax, COMMENT!,  and just enjoy the beauty of iTunes and CD burning capabilities.  The Mix Masters are back!

So I was on the blogs MySpace and I am looking at the homepage.  I scroll down to status updates, and the first one on there is a post by Mr. Legend stating that he will be doing a performance at the 81st Academy Awards show.  Interesting stuff, he has gotten a lot of gigs at some big places... NBA All-Star Half-Time Show, 81st Academy Awards, what's next?  The guy is getting popular and his fourth album will for sure be killer.  Can't wait to here more news out of the Legend himself!

John Legend's Open Letter To The NY Post:

Dear Editor:

I'm trying to understand what possible motivation you may have had for publishing that vile cartoon depicting the shooting of the chimpanzee that went crazy. I guess you thought it would be funny to suggest that whomever was responsible for writing the Economic Recovery legislation must have the intelligence and judgment of a deranged, violent chimpanzee, and should be shot to protect the larger community. Really? Did it occur to you that this suggestion would imply a connection between President Barack Obama and the deranged chimpanzee? Did it occur to you that our President has been receiving death threats since early in his candidacy? Did it occur to you that blacks have historically been compared to various apes as a way of racist insult and mockery? Did you intend to invoke these painful themes when you printed the cartoon?

If that's not what you intended, then it was stupid and willfully ignorant of you not to connect these easily connectable dots. If it is what you intended, then you obviously wanted to be grossly provocative, racist and offensive to the sensibilities of most reasonable Americans. Either way, you should not have printed this cartoon, and the fact that you did is truly reprehensible. I can't imagine what possible justification you have for this. I've read your lame statement in response to the outrage you provoked. Shame on you for dodging the real issue and then using the letter as an opportunity to attack Rev. Sharpton. This is not about Rev. Sharpton. It's about the cartoon being blatantly racist and offensive.

I believe in freedom of speech, and you have every right to print what you want. But freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. You are responsible for printing this cartoon, and I hope you experience some real consequences for it. I'm personally boycotting your paper and won't do any interviews with any of your reporters, and I encourage all of my colleagues in the entertainment business to do so as well. I implore your advertisers to seriously reconsider their business relationships with you as well.

You should print an apology in your paper acknowledging that this cartoon was ignorant, offensive and racist and should not have been printed.

I'm well aware of our country's history of racism and violence, but I truly believe we are better than this filth. As we attempt to rise above our difficult past and look toward a better future, we don't need the New York Post to resurrect the images of Jim Crow to deride the new administration and put black folks in our place. Please feel free to criticize and honestly evaluate our new President, but do so without the incendiary images and rhetoric.

Sincerely,
John Legend

I don't know if any of you actually know how much I love John Legend's work, so for those who don't I am now telling you. I truly think that the music John Legend puts out is the best of both the new music (Rap/Hip-Hop) and R&B/Soul. He mixes and matches these four genres on every track and to tell you the truth, he makes it sound good. He is coming out with an album soon and the title "Evolver" really tells you everything about his political views and outlook on the world. He recently released the single, "If You're Out There" and it was put out on Obama's site as a free download. I will get in depth on the two singles he has released for his up and coming third album entitled, "Evolver."

The first single off of John's up and coming album was "Green Light (Feat. Andre 3000)". The track had a fast beat to it, and Andre 3000 complemented the track with a nice touch. As far as opening singles go for upcoming albums, this one was one of the better ones for Legend. The track is upbeat, up tempo, fast paced, and truly a delight to listen to! If you enjoyed the single as much as I did, you can check out the remixed version with Rick Ross.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

The second single off "Evolver" is called, "If You're Out There". The single was equally if not better than "Green Light (Feat. Andre 3000)" and it had a sort of deep meaning and message to it. He really encouraged people to go out and vote and make decisions for themselves. He also talked about bringing change to the world we live in and that we must actively do things to make the world a better place! My rating for the single can be found below!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

When we hear more about the album, we will be sure to post it up on the blog!

Not much to report on, but from what I understand, the third studio album by John Legend will be released sometime in October of 2008.  He has been recording the album since 2007, and the final product will be a late 08' release.  I am truly excited for the album, and there is still only one confirmed track for the album: "Green Light (Feat. Andre 3000)"

Should be a solid track, and a solid album.  We will be sure to throw more updates on here when we find out more about the up and coming third album release from John Legend.

The LEGEND is back folks!!!  John Legend will be putting out a third album with a rumored record name called, Evolver.  I have no idea what an "evolver" is or does, but it sounds pretty neat!  The album is supposedly going to be dropping in September, 2008, and as of right now, there has been one confirmed track [Green Light] that will feature Andre 3000 on it.  I gave it a listen on YouTube, and I really liked it.  In my opinion, his album will be straight fire.  If I hear anymore on it, I will be sure to post it up!!!

So we got some more news for all of you on John Legends upcoming third album.  There is still no set release date, some are saying that it will be out in August of 08', but there have been reports that say John Legend expects the untitled third album to drop in September of 2008.

From what we understand, the first single for the album will drop this May, and there will more than likely be three to four singles off the album (if he follows his regular pattern).  The album is supposedly a bit different then what you have heard from Legend in the past.  Andrea 3000, one of the featured artists on the album has talked about how the album, "surprise many fans."  He also had stated that the album itself is much more upbeat then the past two (whatever that means), and also has been talking about this being a rather amazing album.  As of right now, we only know that Andre 3000 is the only artist to be working with Legend on the album (due to there not being any other artist names being released).  We will provide some stuff for the album below, and when we  hear more about Mr. Legend's third and upcoming album, we will be sure to let you know about it!

Known Artist (As Of Now):
  • Andre 3000
Track Names (Note, The Two Track Names Below Are For The Same Song, There Has Not Been A Confirmed Name For The Track In Which Andre and Legend Have Worked On):
  • "Green Light" or "Ready To Go"
Who We Think Will Be Featured On The Album (Not, These Are Just Our Guesses):
  • Kanye West
  • Will.I.Am
  • Mary J. Blige
  • Common
  • Consequence
None of the listings posted have been confirmed yet, the featured artists are musicians we think could be featured on the album.  As of now, Andre 3000 is the only confirmed feature artist on the track.  When we hear more about the August or September 08' release, we will be sure to let you know, and hopefully confirm some things about the album!

If you ever look at John Legend's release dates (for his past two albums), you will see a pattern. The album will always be released towards the end of a year, and so far, his releases have been coming out every two years.

John Legends upcoming album will be following his pattern, and the planned released date is for August 2008.  There really is not much news on the album, but as of late, we have been trying to get an interview with Mr. Legend on his current works, and past productions.  I am sure that his third album release will be just as good as his past ones.

Check back here in the coming weeks for reviews of both Once Again and Get Lifted.
